Therapeutic Writing is a personal process of writing deep thoughts and feelings about stressful events. Through therapeutic writing, authors can develop their inner voice and emotional maturity.
Our sessions in Therapeutic Writing will be led by Devika K, who serves as an educator and facilitator to a number of leading private institutions.

For this special outdoor meeting, we will gather at the Main Gate of the Botanic Gardens (at the corner of Cluny Road and Napier Road, near Gleneagles Hospital) and proceed from there to our venue, so don’t be late. The actual session will last until about 7:30 pm. Follow this map to get to Botanic Gardens.

Topic: Therapeutic Writing I

Asian Children’s Writers and Illustrators Conference
March 11th, 2008 under News. [ Comments: none ]

If you write Children’s literature, or are thinking about writing it, this conference is for you!

The conference is put on by the National Library Board. It will take place 5-7 June 2008. The conference fee is $200 per person for the early bird rate (before 5 May); $240 pp after.

This year, the conference will include a day of masterclass to enable you to enhance your writing skill.

Short + Sweet is back! Get ready for the world’s biggest short play festival with these specially brewed scriptwriting and acting workshops.

Scriptwriting Workshops

These concentrated workshops are perfect for both beginners and those with experience. Using simple yet effective exercises, they will give you the skills, tools and techniques to turn your ideas into successful plays.

Session one will explore how to start writing, creating characters, building a narrative, and some playwriting basics such as turning off your inner critic!

Session two will focus on the different styles of theatre, how to make your script work, harnessing your imagination and working with dialogue. This session will also reveal the secrets of writing for Short+Sweet and Short Sweet+Song, our 10-minute musical festival.

The Audition

One of the most important skills of any actor is how to do a good audition. Whether you are a beginner or someone with experience, you’ll pick up some important tools: how to perform a monologue with success, how to present yourself professionally and with confidence and how to handle a ‘cold read’ (an unseen script which you have to perform on the spot).

About Michael Huxley

Michael has over 20 years of experience teaching and creating theatre. He has taught at the Sydney Conservatorium, the Actor College of Theatre and Television, Australian Theatre for Young People, Marian Street Theatre Drama School and The Q Theatre drama school.

Michael has also worked as an actor, writer, musical director, director, sound designer and producer. As a writer/composer, his work has been performed at Marian St Theatre, Sydney Opera House, Seymour Centre, and Australian Theatre for Young People, Q Theatre and Darlinghurst Theatre. They include incidental music, scores for Shakespeare, underscores for plays, musicals, children’s theatre and short plays.

He is the Festival Director for 2008 Sydney Short Sweet+Song as well as Executive producer on the Australian tour of Shorter+Sweeter.

About Nicole Stinton

Nicole Stinton performed professionally for many years in the Australian Theatre, Film and TV industries as an Actor, Vocalist, Pianist and Dancer. Nicole has also taught Musical Theatre, Acting and Voice to both professionals and amateurs for over 15 years.

Now based in Singapore, Nicole is a highly sought after freelance Director, Musical Director Trainer and Producer. She has worked with Lasalle College of The Arts, 21st Century Performing Arts Festival (Malaysia), Escape Theatre, Music Theatre Ltd, The Arts House and The Esplanade Theatres On The Bay.

She currently is the Festival Director of Short+Sweet Singapore and the Founding Director of Performing Arts and Training company Stint on Stage.

Elephant&Coral Poetry Contest!

Write a poem about The Spice of Life

Elephant and Coral is holding a poetry contest about The Spice of Life for this round of their ongoing literary contests.

Open to Singaporeans, Permanent Residents and foreigners aged 16 and above.

Employees of Elephant and Coral and Singapore Press Holdings are not eligible.

Theme is “The Spice of Life”.

Poems must be 300 words or less.

Each participant can submit up to 3 entries.

Each entry must be printed on an A4 page.

The entries must be postmarked no later than 7 January 2008.
